Running a business maybe fun, but it is really hard work. The pressures of work and trying to maintain a work/life balance can at times seem almost impossible, but it’s essential to ensure long term success.
In order to help you with your freelancing journey, I thought I’d share three tips that have helped me along the way.
1. Celebrate the small wins
At the end of each month, I like to undertake a brief review. During this time I look at my financial status and review my interactions with clients. It’s a helpful way to track progress, identify trends and minimise bad behaviour before it becomes habit.
When reviewing the above data, I like to ask myself the following questions:
Is my financial situation improving? Why/why not?
Am I happy with the work I’ve done for my clients this month? Why/why not?
Have I made new connections? Why/why not?
I also like to write down the following and keep it handy in a place that I can easily access:
Something I need to improve on for next month
Something I did well this month
What I am going to do differently next month
These simple exercises are a great tool to get you thinking about your strengths, as well as your weaknesses. It helps demonstrate that regardless of the situation you are in, it is possible to evolve and grow.
2. Have hobbies
When you think of the world’s top entrepreneurs, the first thing you notice is that they may work hard, but they also play hard. Spend time working out what you enjoy doing and commit to them.
I love what I do, but I also know I can’t work around the clock 24/7. For me, I love spending time outdoors, it allows me to reconnect with nature and ensure I remain grounded and present in my daily life.
3. Understand you can’t do it all
I put a lot of pressure on myself, I thought I had to do it all. But thankfully through discovering meditation, I realised I don’t have to. I worked out what I could outsource and I made the decision to ensure these activities were completed by an expert in their field.
For me, the biggest relief came when I outsourced my bookkeeping needs to the fabulous Lauretta Finis from Quick Bizness Bookkeeping Solutions. I am grateful for Lauretta’s knowledge, attention and care.
So there you have it, three simple tips to help you as a business owner. To help cement what you’ve learnt, repeat, this simple mantra whenever you need it:
“I can succeed, I will succeed. I am succeeding. Nothing will stop me.”
Love and light,
